Time is growing short – only 31 days before the 3rd Annual VGSR Golf Tournament and Auction. We want to ensure that all players, shoppers, volunteers and participants know the fast approaching deadlines. We think this will be a sold out event - so if you want to PLAY in the tournament, please send in your registration and payment. We would LOVE to have more sponsors and auction donations. If you can help, please send in your sponsorship and donation forms now. We will, happily, make arrangements to pick up auction donations at a mutually agreeable location. Pet Tributes

I would hazard a guess that most of the people reading this blog have at least one pet in their home – a dog, cat, bird, turtle, lizard or other.

The initial reasons for getting a pet may vary - companionship and security are just two reasons but ultimately, our world involves LOVE. We love our pets and, within a very short time, new pets become cherished family members. We enjoy telling people about our pets, showing their pictures and reliving their adventures.

VGSR is pleased to offer you the opportunity to “talk” about your pet – either a current pet, a friend or relative's pet, or one who has passed onto the Rainbow Bridge. You can be a “Sponsor” in our upcoming Golf Tournament. It's easy and each Tournament Sponsorship level comes with a personalized sign which can be used to honor your favorite pet(s). So, show everyone how much you love Max or Princess or King or Brandi or…. (you get the picture!).


Share the Love and help benefit some great dogs in the process. The two most popular sponsorship levels are Best Friend ($100) and Puppy Love ($500) but there are other options, too. Let’s hear from you. Remember, it’s all about the dogs.

Players are signing up for the Third Annual Virginia German Shepherd Rescue Golf Tournament & Auction well ahead of the October 1 event. Players are returning for the 3rd year and we are welcoming new players as the word spreads that this is "The Must Play Tournament of the Season".

The Hole-in-One is $50,000 cash offered as a 50/50. Some lucky golfer has the chance to walk away with $25,000 while earning $25,000 for rescue. Bonus hole prizes include a Seven Day Cruise, Golf Clubs (2 PW) and a $500 Pro Shop Credit. Prizes will be awarded for Closest to Pin, Longest Drive, and First through Third Place Teams. A putting contest and a 50/50 Jackpot add to the fun.

Dogs and Golf - what a great match!

Troon Golf shares our opinion. While Troon Golf doesn't have any golf courses in Virginia, they happily donated a Golf Foursome at the Kierland Golf Club in Scottsdale, Arizona. VGSR is thrilled to have their support.

This Golf Club is the centerpiece of the Westin Kierland Resort and Spa in Scottsdale. Three 9 hole courses offer several playing combinations and impeccible conditioning. A 2.5 million dollar renovation in 2002 added strategic placement of new bunkers, higher heather grasses and TifEagle greens. Play involves rolling fairways and elevation changes with many risk/reward shots.

What Can You Expect?

If you are one of the lucky players in the upcoming VGSR Golf Tournament, you can expect a wonderful afternoon of golf on a course which was ranked “#3, Best Courses you can play, 2009” by Golfweek magazine. As its name indicates, the Blue Ridge Shadows golf club is located in the shadows of the Blue Ridge Mountains near Skyline Drive and the scenic Shenandoah Valley. This spectacular Tom Clark designed 18-hole championship golf course is located an hour from Washington DC and Northern Virginia.

We’ll have contests and prizes including:
• $50,000 Hole in One Prize (50/50 – Lucky Golfer Wins $25,000 and VGSR Receives $25,000)

You will have an opportunity to meet some of the wonderful GSDs that have either been adopted or are currently in VGSR foster care. It is truly “golf4dogs” and our 4 legged friends want you to see how much your support is appreciated. Our volunteers will be available to answer questions about VGSR, rescues, GSDs and dogs in general.

After an exciting afternoon of golf, our players will be treated to dinner, an awards ceremony and the culmination of our Silent Auction and Chinese Raffle. Of course, the after-golf activities are not limited to golfers only - anyone is welcome to join us for dinner and have a great time. So, if you are a golfer but your spouse, significant other and/or friend isn’t but loves dogs, shopping and having a good time, submit your entry to play and make a dinner only reservation for your special friend. You won’t regret it!
