Hollie's Story

Meet Hollie,

Hollie is 11.5 years old GSD who prior to joining VGSR had lived her entire life
Hollie & Flo
outdoors.  Due to a skin infection she was shaved.  Her fur is growing back as the infection has been eradicated.  Hollie is also 15 pounds underweight and we are working on the cause of her weight loss.  While Hollie has not had much interaction with dogs, she has settled into her foster home without issue. She is truly a gentle giant and wants nothing more than to be by your side and will follow you where ever you go.

Hollie has taken to living indoors and while she will follow you where ever you go, she is very content to snooze on a big comfy bed [as long as it is near you].

She is looking for a loving family that she can call her own.  Is it yours?

Sweet Mature GSD - Looking for Love

Florence is a petite little lass who when she first joined VGSR was timid and scared of everything, extremely underweight with whip worms and a skin infection.
Her skin infection and the whip worms have been resolved and she is slowly gaining weight. She is 7 years old but has not been socialized with people or dogs.  Flo is the sweetest gal and is slowly learning to trust and is gaining confidence.  Her house mates are very patient and she is learning by watching and mimicking their behavior.  Flo is getting comfortable going on walks and has begun to play ball.  She is getting better meeting people, but the process is slow as she will approach for attention then retreat if you shift positions or move too fast.  In time, Flo will blossom into a lovely, confident companion.

Please contact VGSR, if you are the right loving home for this wonderful girl.

NEW SILENT AUCTION DONATION:

A former adopter has made a generous donation for the Silent Auction, a 3 night stay at their pet-friendly motel on Hatteras Island!  Get ready to place your bid for this fantastic getaway.

Nestled in the heart of the quiet village of Buxton and situated in the mist of Cape Hatteras National Seashore, guests are able to enjoy over 100 miles of clean white sand beach as well as easy access to shopping, sightseeing and a wide variety of activities offered by the Outer Banks.

You'll find  OBX charter fishing in the Gulf Stream, surf fishing, OBX windsurfing at Canadian Hole, board surfing, kite-surfing, swimming, birding, shelling and kite flying - to name a few activities!
They also shared an update on Simon, whom they adopted from VGSR about 5 years ago.
When Simon first joined the family, he was not a swimmer.  Now he loves to jump in the pool and retrieve his favorite toy - a squeaky ball with feet. He also loves boat rides with the family in the Gulf or on Pamlico Sound.
Simon is a distant cousin of Houdini as he can open doors, manipulate locks, and escape a metal crate!
Simon and his bestie
When he first joined the family, Heidi [who sadly has passed] said, ‘Get him out of there’, but after a couple weeks she accepted him and they became great pals. While she was in charge, Simon still teased her in his version of “I’m not touching you”.  Heidi let him tease her for a bit, then she would play at nipping him.  They always looked out for one another.
Simon is now 9 years old and we can’t believe that he is entering his senior years and showing signs of slowing down. It seems like we got him yesterday. He brought us joy and new challenges and so much pride, since he is always a subject of admiration for his good looks.

Fostering a dog isn’t
a lifetime commitment

 It’s a commitment to
saving a LIFE.

Fostering saves the lives of many dogs, not just the dog you bring into your home.  In most cases, if you take on a dog that was pulled from a shelter, you have just saved two lives.  The one you brought home, and the one you made room for at the shelter.
If fostering appeals to you, and you would like to know more, please visit the VGSR website.
