Romper

Greetings from Romper, a friendly German Shepherd who sports an almost toothless grin most of the time.  Handsome and weighing in at 95 lbs., we think he is 10(ish) years old.  This sweet guy was neglected for much of his long life, housed in an enclosure that was too small, with a concrete floor.  Romper suffered from advanced dental disease when he was (thankfully) surrendered to VGSR.  His jaw was infected and almost all of his teeth had to be pulled, thus the “almost” toothless grin!  He has also undergone extensive veterinary dental treatment to control his periodontal disease.

Unfortunately, Romper's hips are in bad shape and he suffers from Progressive Degenerative Myelopathy, a progressive disease for which there is no cure, which will slowly rob him of the use of his rear legs.

Yet, despite all of his health issues, poor treatment over so many years, and lack of human contact and training, Romper is a gentle soul.  He loves people of all ages (yes, good with kids!), other dogs large and small, and cats! He naturally follows when on a lead, is very quiet, loves to learn new things and is enjoying his new life despite his physical limitations.

Romper's VGSR foster family continues to pursue a “forever” home for him.  Sadly, as an older dog with many veterinary problems, it is unlikely that VGSR will be able to find a suitable adoptive home.  Luckily, he has a wonderful foster family who will continue to take care of him until he does find his forever family.  His veterinary bills are already thousands of dollars (ten times the cost of the average rescued German Shepherd) and will likely continue to grow.

Perhaps you want to help Romper? Perhaps you can't adopt him? Perhaps you would consider making a donation to VGSR and help us pay for his care?  Be a Sponsor and help Romper or one of our other dogs who are looking for their forever home.

 Romper – sit, stay, smile!
